Definitely the best book I've ever read on dog origins and behaviour by Ray Coppinger. Ray has a unique view on his subject matter gained from many years of research with a wide range of dog breeds.
JAFFI owned by Siv
Grönholm. His
full name is Rosso Di Sera Di Selvaspina and his breeder
is Ms Anna Albrigo in Italy. He was imported to Finland in the autumn
1996 by a finnish breeder that later on decided that she had too
many Maremmanos. We bought him as a pet in December 1997 and are
very pleased with him. After moving from the suburbs to a small
farm in October this year Jaffi now spends a lot of time outside
guarding his own territory. Jaffi has turned out to be a wonderful
family dog when remembering he was brought up in a kennel in Italy,
imported to Finland to live in a flock consisting of 4 other Maremmanos,
and then re-homed in a family with two small children, Mathias and
Pamela, at that time aged 3 ½ and just under 2. Though Jaffi was
not used to small children we have not had any problems. As a curiosity
I can tell that my daughter Pamela is born 20.01.96 and is thus
one week older than Jaffi. These first photos of my son Mathias,
then aged 4, and Jaffi were taken in summer 98.
This photo
of Jaffi trotting along is one of my absolute favourites. It is
taken in the evening after the World Dog Show in Helsinki, Finland,
in June 1998. Jaffi won the Open class and was beaten only by the
two Italian champions participating. Needless to say I was very
proud of him.

The
famous maremma in repose - don't we all know this legs crossed position!
Meet Ardito, my new pup
from Italy!
15 weeks and all 'muscles'
on ma's kitchen table
Ardito
thinking: First I lick and kiss..
..
still some more kissing.....
..
and then I take liberties......
Ardito
likes to stay close to water
This
pic of Mathias and Pamela was taken about a year ago. In the background
you can see our house and all the other buildings.
