The front
page of the web site, featuring a photo of Abruzzo, who was a promising
lad at only 11 months old, swimming on a beach at Byron Bay with my
son. He certainly grew to all expectations after being imported from
Italy only a week or two before the photo was taken. |
| AMARCORD |
An overview
of my farm and association with the Maremmano Abruzzese. Read about
where I am, what my dogs are doing, and see some of farm. I should
note here that at present I am not living on a farm, but am living
in Lismore for a few years, and sadly only have 2 of my maremmas with
me at present. Briana who is aging and has adjusted well to town life,
and her daughter Priya (not pictured on this page) who would be far
happier out of town, but copes with loving her family. Abruzzo is
living with Linda Bagnall whose link is in the links page. |

You know what
this page is all about now don't you? |
| TEMPERAMENT |
A description
of the unique Maremmano temperament - just what are these dogs like
and how do they work?
The temperament of the
maremma as a working or companion dog is discussed. |
| STANDARDS |
Don't
miss viewing this page!
The full breed standard,
quite fully illustrated. This page goes hand in hand with the Temperament
page - the true Maremmano Abruzzese must have the physical and the
temperament characteristics to say they have 'maremmano abruzzese
type'. |
| HISTORY |
The fascinating
history of this ancient Italian breed.
Where the dogs come from,
how they have been used in Italy and other countries. This really
helps to put the whole 'type' of the dog into it's true perspective. |
| TRAINING |
Training this
dog is far different to training any other breed - read the Temperament
page first for best results. |
| MEDISOFT |
My 'other'
business. As well as the Maremmano Abruzzese I have a small business
which is described here. |
| FORUM |
I own a
wonderful mailing list for Maremmano Abruzzese admirers. There are
no pre-requisites like owning one, just the desire to talk to other
people about this wonderful dog, and the promise to respect every
person who has a point of view, and the right to say your point
of view.
You will find information
here on how to join up with the online mailing list run through
yahoo groups, providing support by peers all over the world
and many great online tools for sharing information about this amazing
breed of dog. I am unable to keep lists of breeders in any
country, so if you are looking to obtain a maremma, this
is the place to come and find out more information on the breed
and possible contacts in your area. |
| FRANCA
SIMONDETTI |
My tribute
to a dear friend, sadly missed. Franca bred Maremmani for over 25
years, and was undoubtedly held in very high esteem throughout all
of Italy and in every country in the world that they exist. The article
on this page shows her deep understanding of the breed very well,
and her love for them stands out in every paragraph. |

This page
